City tapping 4VI to take over local tourism promotion

An Island-based regional tourism promoter will be taking over the Campbell River Visitor Info Centre this year.

Campbell River gave notice this week it plans to hire 4VI, formerly Tourism Vancouver Island, to manage the centre and its operations, as well as provide training and coaching, for one year.

The city is looking to rebuild after the previous contractor walked away in the fall, leaving the city scrambling to prepare for this year.

Last year the Visitor Info Centre was moved from the downtown Centennial building to the Maritime Heritage Centre. It was moved because of concerns over crime, camping and open drug use downtown giving a bad impression to tourists.
