Golf course neighbours not happy with proposed 6 am maintenance start

Residents living near the golf course in town aren’t happy about a proposed bylaw change to let maintenance workers start at 6 am.

The city received 20 letters responding to the proposed bylaw change, which goes before council for a second time on Thursday. Council first discussed it in January.

Most comments were from seniors living nearby who aren’t against the golf course doing maintenance, but don’t want to hear dump trucks and wood chippers starting up at 6 am every day outside their bedroom windows.

Several letter-writers pointed out the golf course often begins work at 7 am, although the current bylaw restricts start times to 8. They were skeptical that an earlier start time would improve the situation, if the city is already allowing violations to continue.
