Campbell River is getting some international recognition.

CRadvantage has won a Smart 50 Networks Award. That’s the city’s municipal broadband network.

The Smart 50 Awards honour the most innovative and influential technology projects around the world. Mayor Andy Adams says the award highlights the city’s “progressive and innovative approach to improving connectivity and spurring economic development.”

Warren Kalyn, the City’s information technology manager, says CRadvantage makes Campbell River attractive to businesses “because it gives them access to a fast fibre optic network at a fraction of the previous cost.”

Campbell River was the first Vancouver Island municipality to offer such a service, and is now the first Vancouver Island municipality to win this award. The city’s Smart 50 Award will be presented at a gala in Kansas City, Missouri on March 26^th.
