As legacy meters expire, BC Hydro is sending letters to customers telling them it’s time to replace them.
There are about 14 thousand Hydro customers in BC that pay extra because they don’t want a Smart Meter, either because of health or privacy concerns.
BC Hydro spokesperson Greg Alexis says earlier this year 2300 customers were told their legacy meters were expiring and needed to be replaced and Smart Meters are still a good option.
Customers who still don’t want a Smart Meter can have a meter installed with the radio frequency turned off, but it will continue to cost extra for that option.
