The Tlowitsis First Nation says it wants to work with its new neighbours as plans move forward to create a reserve near Campbell River.
The First Nation has finalized a purchase agreement with Timberwest for land in the York Road area with plans to turn it into a reserve.
Some residents in the area have raised concerns over a lack of consultation on the plan.
Tlowitsis spokesperson Thomas Smith says there is a process that needs to be followed before the plans can move forward.
The original Tlowitsis village was shut down several decades ago and the nation has been seeking a new location for it’s people to call home.
Smith says they also want to ensure that their plans are respectful of the land and the residents in the area.
