Efforts to increase safety are paying off in the forest

It looks like safety in the forestry industry in improving by leaps and bounds.

Reynold Hert Chief Executive Officer of the BC Forest Safety Council says last year there were 10 fatalities of forestry workers across the province.

Hert says one of those fatalities happened in the Island Coastal region.

He says the five biggest timber harvesters in the coastal region have created a work team to suggest and institute changes that increase forestry worker safety.

Hert says coming weekend the Vancouver Island safety conference for forestry is happening in Nanaimo and it will be another place where everyone can come together to understand how to best reduce fatalities and serious injuries in the sector.
