Coastal First Nations say the newly announced Ocean Protection Plan is a good first step.
The Federal government announced the $1.5 billion plan this week.
Chief of the Heiltsuk First Nation, Marilyn Slett, says they were pleased to see the plan includes developing community response teams with Indigenous communities.
Slett says the spill from the sunken tug and the sinking of a barge near Klemtu on Sunday shows that more work needs to be done in order for BC to have a world-class response system.
