The Great Bear Rainforest legacy received international recognition Tuesday at Buckingham Palace.
The legacy is being included as part of The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy Initiative, which raises awareness of work being done in commonwealth countries to conserve forests for future generations.
Dallas Smith, who was one of the negotiators who worked to develop the legacy, says he was pleased to see the legacy selected for this kind of international recognition.
Smith says he hopes the work done on the Great Bear Rainforest Legacy will serve as an example for other groups in Canada and around the world that it is possible to bring together different interest groups to reach a collaborative agreement.
