Its just about a wrap for the 2014 forest fire season, with the Coastal Fire Centre scaling back operations for the winter months.
Spokesperson Donna McPherson says there are still two hot spots on the North Island, that they’ll be keeping close tabs on throughout the winter.
Meanwhile the tally is in, and there were a total of 61 fires in the coastal region this year, as compared to a normal forest fire season of about 86 fires. She chalks that up people being very cautious over the summer months.
