Province gives OK for more overdose prevention sites

The Federal Government has introduced a Bill to make it easier for communities to establish supervised consumption sites.

It would still require community engagement but would streamline the application process.

Island Health’s Dr. Paul Hasselback says there still hasn’t been a decision made with regards to a supervised injection site, nor an overdose prevention site.

In the meantime, the province’s Health Minister, Terry Lake has taken an extraordinary measure by enacting a ministerial order to support the development of overdose prevention sites.

The rate of overdoses combined with the onset of colder weather prompted the urgent action.
