Workers start strike action at Campbell River Chances Casino

Picket lines were put up at the Campbell River Chances Casino Wednesday morning.

United Steelworkers union representative Rick Wrangler says the about 40 unionized workers are taking two days of job action after contract talks with Playtime gaming failed.

Wrangler says the main sticking points in contract talks are wages, the term of any agreement and how tips are handled.

Playtime gaming meanwhile says in a statement that the “…Union commenced job action by rotating strike despite having a fair and generous offer.”

They say this makes it very difficult for Playtime to operate a business and by choosing this action the Union has forced a lockout.

The statement also says there will be changes in the casino’s hours during the lockout and there will be extra security.

An information hotline has been set up by Play time so that people can get information about hours of operation, that phone number is 250-286-1442.
