Researchers isolate the virus causing sea star deaths

It looks like the first part of the puzzle has now been uncovered when it comes to the cause of the epidemic deaths of sea stars on our Coast.

The head veterinarian at the Vancouver Aquarium Martin Haulena says researchers at Cornell University have isolated a virus that is likely causing the sea star wasting syndrome, but Haulena says the virus is not the only cause.

He says the research also uncovered something very interesting.

Haulena says continuing research will look at environmental conditions that perhaps have made this virus a bit more pathogenic and what the long term impacts are.
