City approves new composting facility

The City of Campbell River has approved the development of a regional composting facility.

Campbell River Council approved the facility be developed at the Norm Wood Environmental Centre.

James Mathers, Senior Manager of Comox-Strathcona Waste Management Services, says the facility is highly beneficial for people in both Campbell River and the Comox Valley.

“It will extend the life of landfills, specifically the one in Cumberland,” he says.

Mathers says the facility will allow Comox Strathcona Waste Management to divert more compost in both areas, which will help them achieve a 70% diversion rate by 2022.
