Watch for vandalism around your community mailbox

The local president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers is cautioning residents to be alert around their community mailboxes.

Mailboxes from across the province have been vandalized and broken into, including here on the Island.

Ryan Knight from CUPW Local 712 says there are some signs to look for when it comes to vandalism and tampering.

“The main thing is to see if hinges [have been] pried on by a screwdriver…or maybe the paint has been chipped off or scratched from an object trying to pry the box open,” he says.

Knight says if you notice any signs of vandalism, call the authorities or the emergency number listed on the mailbox.
