Financial boost for Strathcona Emergency Program

The city of Campbell River has agreed to provide some increased financial support to the Strathcona Emergency Program.

The Strathcona Regional District had asked to increase the amount of money going to their emergency program. Finance Manager for the city, Myriah Foort says the increase will come into effect next year.

“Based to an average home, an expectation would be that the levy charged for this specific service is around $9, per household per year,” she says.

Foort adds that, “we’re looking at an increase from $9.10 up to $11.36 so it does sound significant in percentage-wise but dollar-wise it’s not significant.”

Foort notes it’s been identified locally and across Vancouver Island that more resources need to be invested in emergency preparedness.
