A new program is being rolled out to help address the issue of elder abuse.
Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Spokesperson Jane Vinet says the It’s Not Right program is aimed at helping to recognize and address the issue of elder abuse.
Vinet says elder abuse can take a variety of forms.
“Might be someone who’s having their money controlled by one of their children or deferring choices to someone else in her family who suddenly thinks that you’re [the senior] no longer capable of making decisions on your own.”
It’s estimated 4 to 10% of adults over 65 in Canada will experience some form of abuse in their later years.
