Getting set for National Aboriginal Day

The community is invited out to celebrate National Aboriginal Day on Wednesday.

Events are taking place in communities across the country tomorrow to mark the day, including here in Campbell River.

Shawn Decaire with the Laichwiltach Family Life Society says it’s a chance to honour and celebrate First Nations culture.

“I think it’s important to understand the resiliency that the First Nations had to overcome through the centuries of genocides and other things to really persevere and try and stand firm in the territory they originally came from.”

The day will kick-off with the annual Walk and Run the Spit, put on by KDC Health, starting at 8 am, followed by an opening ceremony at the Big House at 10 am.
