The Coastal Fire Centre is asking people to be careful in the woods. The Centre has responded to almost two-dozen fires so far this year. All of them have been human-caused.
Fire Information Officer Marg Drysdale says most of the region is in moderate to high fire danger rating.
“People have to be very aware. We’ve had a long, wet winter, we’ve had a wet spring, but now we’re starting to build so the weather is getting hotter – it’s continuing to dry, [and] we’ve had a few light showers but the ground is actually still drying.”
Drysdale says if you have a campfire this weekend, make sure it is cool to the touch before you leave.
She also notes that things like fireworks, fire crackers, and sky lanterns are currently prohibited.
