SRD Reaching Out To Engage Residents With New System

The Strathcona Regional District is encouraging residents to register for the Emergency Notification System.

The system, developed out of the results of a recent preparedness survey, sends out alerts en masse to landlines and cellular devices in emergency situations.

Shaun Koopman, District Protective Services Co-ordinator, says over 1000 people have registered so far, but is looking for that number to increase.

“In a perfect world, everybody in the regional district would be signed up for this system. It’s also important that tourists and visitors sign up as well.”

Koopman notes in the event of an emergency, the notification system will be an essential communication tool.

Anyone interested in registering can either contact the districts office or visit their website for more details.
