Fewer staff at Island Health have gotten flu shots this year over last year

Health care workers are now going to have to wear a mask at work if they haven t gotten their flu shot, as mandated by Island Health’s Influenza Protection Policy for Health Care workers that kicked in on Dec. 1.

North Island Medical Health Officer Doctor Charaime Enns says it is still very early in the influenza season.

Enns says staff still have lots of opportunities to get vaccinated and she hopes people go in to get their shots over the next few days.

Last year an arbitrator’s ruling on the influenza policy grievance made it mandatory for all B.C. health care workers to be vaccinated or wear a mask during flu season after complaints from the BC Nurses Union.
