Campbell River SAR promoting water safety

Campbell River Search and Rescue is reminding people to be safe on the water.

The team was called out last week to a potential drowning at Lukwa Creek near Woss.

SAR Manager Grant Cromer says they were informed as they were responding that it would likely be a recovery rather than a rescue.

“Drowning calls have a very short window of opportunity for rescue so when we did arrive, the subject was deceased. It didn’t change our response but it does weigh on our members when we’re getting there knowing that we’re going to do a recovery of a deceased subject rather than a live one.”

SAR assisted with recovering the body for the Port McNeill RCMP.

The man’s name has not been released.
