BC Ferries is looking to overhaul their fare system and bring in a new digital reservation system as part of an improvement initiative.
BC Ferries CEO Mike Corrigan says the new fare system would be much like an airline model.
Corrigan says under this new initiative reservations fees would be part of the fare price that you could pre pay online.
As for the digital component of the plan,
Corrigan says their new Fare Flexibility and Digital Experience Initiative is now before the ferry commissioner who must approve it before it goes ahead.
Corrigan says that money will help keep fares down, and he says they expect the new pricing model will drive 3 to 5 percent more traffic onto ferries.
