Campbell River RCMP arrest a man they call 'Black Top Bandit'

On Wednesday December 3, 2014, the Campbell River RCMP arrested a 50 year old Campbell River man for fraud and fail to comply with a probation order.

Between November 23, 2014 and December 3, 2014 a male, who called himself “John” “John’s Driveways” or “Gravel Dan” was going door to door soliciting business to either resurface driveways or bring a load of gravel to driveways and appeared to be targeting seniors.  He was described as Caucasian, approximately 6 feet tall with short greying blonde hair, sometimes wearing a beige jacket.

A media release was sent out warning the public about this male, and thankfully the Campbell River RCMP received many tips and were able to locate him on Galerno Road, near Francis Street.  He was arrested without incident and is currently in custody at the Campbell River RCMP Detachment and will make a court appearance today.

At least three people paid this male cash to complete jobs which he never returned to do and there may be more people out there. The Campbell River RCMP are asking the public to call if they had contact with this male and have not yet spoken with police about it.

He will be facing several fraud charges and several probation charges.
