DFO team probing death of Orca near Courtenay

In the Comox Valley Department of Fisheries and Oceans officers have pulled in a dead Orca whale to Bates Beach.

DFO officials will carry out a full examination of the whale, to pinpoint the cause of death, all part of a thorough investigation on that.

The dead mammal has been attracting a steady stream of curious local residents to the beach today, says valley resident Greg Phelps who helped put up some fencing around the mammal, and despite that effort to secure the area there have been issues with residents touching the whale…

Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada Marine Biologists are investigating the cause of death of the 18-year-old whale, known as J-32.

A necropsy may be carried out on Saturday.
