School fountains removed after testing positive for lead

Some water fountains at three Campbell River schools have been removed because of concerns over lead.

Disctrict 72 says 10 fountains total have been decommissioned at Cedar Elementary, École des Deux Mondes, and Robron Centre.

Annual testing showed lead levels slightly over the allowable levels. The school board says testing at Cedar and EDM confirmed it was a problem with the fountains and not the schools’ pipes.

Secondary testing at Robron is expected this week to confirm whether or not the issue extends to the pipes. In the meantime new stainless steel fountains have been ordered to replace the ones there.
