Fire department encouraging escape plans

It’s two o’clock in the morning and your smoke alarm goes off; do you know what to do? The Campbell River Fire Department is asking residents that question for Fire Prevention Week.

Fire Chief Ian Baikie says in a typical home fire you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape. That’s why he’s encouraging everyone to make, and practice, an escape plan with their families.

Baikie says an escape plan includes working smoke alarms on every level of your home, in every bedroom and near all sleeping areas and two clear ways out of every room. You can find more fire prevention tips at this website.
