Pumpkin Smash back for an 11th year

It’s time to bust up those jack-o-lanterns. The 11th annual Pumpkin Smash is happening this weekend.

The smash is an easy, free way to help keep pumpkins out of landfills. Comox Strathcona Waste Management says pumpkins in landfills decompose without oxygen, creating leachate and methane gas, both of which are harmful to the environment.

The Pumpkin Smash is on from 11:00am to 3:00pm at Strathcona Gardens both tomorrow and Sunday. If you can bring a donation for the Campbell River food bank as well organizers say it’d be gladly accepted. You can find more information on how to get rid of your jack-o-lanterns at this website.
