Calls for help to Campbell River Search and Rescue up last year

It was a busy year for Campbell River Search & Rescue. The organization says in 2017 they got 52 calls for service.

That’s up 18 per cent over the year before which it says is pretty typical for stats it’s seeing from across British Columbia. The organization says call volume has been trending up for nearly every SAR group in BC over the last 10 years.

It says they’re also seeing a change in the type of calls that come in, getting more rescue calls than missing person calls. That’s because technology like cell phones and personal locator beacons get a person’s coordinators to SAR so less time is spent searching for them.

Campbell River SAR is a 100 per cent volunteer group.  You can find more information about it and the service it provides at its website.
