Two students arrested in school lockdown incident

COMOX VALLEY, B.C.- The Comox Valley RCMP has arrested two students for uttering threats in connection to a school incident this morning.

The three Comox Valley high schools were closed after School District 71 received notice from the RCMP that one of the schools was not safe.

Elementary schools were put under a “hold and secure”, but that was later lifted, shortly after 11 a.m.

Investigators will work with Crown Counsel and SD71 to find possible resolutions to today’s events, according to a release from the Comox Valley RCMP.

The two students have since been released to the care of their parents.

“We have a system in place to deal with matters such as this. This incident was able to show that the system works. SD71 and the Comox Valley RCMP were able to collaboratively work together, keeping students and staff safe,” read the release.

The three high schools (Mark R. Isfeld, GP Vanier and Highland) will reopen tomorrow.
