BC Hydro upping John Hart discharge ahead of storm

BC Hydro is cranking up the water discharge from the John Hart Dam again.

That’s to compensate for some incoming rain. There’s a good chance we’ll see a subtropical storm on Sunday and Monday.

BC Hydro has doubled the amount of water discharge in response. The utility is asking people to continue to stay away from Elk Falls and the Campbell River for the time being.

With the chance of heavy rain and the snow that’s already on the ground there’s a chance the reservoirs could see a lot of water pour in. The Upper Campbell Reservoir/Buttle Lake is already on the higher side, sitting at 219 metres. BC Hydro says it’ll reach out to the city if any downstream flood risk develops.
