Painter Barclay logging sparks outcry from locals

CAMPBELL RIVER. B.C.-Logging in Campbell River’s Painter Barclay area is causing some concern for the people who live there.

Rockyview Resources handed out a flyer to residents saying the company would be cutting down trees at the old Elk Falls Mill site. One of those residents emailed a copy of the flyer to 2Day FM.

It states in part that the logging operations will be running this week and that Orange Road between Highway 19 and Wood Road would be closed each day between 7:00am and 5:00pm.

Elizabeth Digout, the resident who got in touch with 2Day FM, says she’s concerned about the wildlife that lives there and preserving the “walking paths and beauty” of the area.

When their concerns were brought to the city it told the residents they understand the concerns, but that since the land is private property complaints need to be sent to the Managed Forest Council.
