Avalanche risk increasing

There’s been a jump in the avalanche risk in the local back country. Right now the Island Avalanche Bulletin says there is a moderate risk both in the alpine and below the tree line.

Campbell River search and rescue president Tim Fairbank says the risk is much higher than it has been at any point this winter.

Fairbank explains what the most dangerous areas are.

He recommends everyone who goes into the back country does an avalanche training course before hand and takes a shovel, electronic beacon and a probe with them on their trek.

Check the Vancouver Island Avalanche Bulletin for all the latest updates.
