SRD urging people to learn ham radio

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-The Strathcona Regional District is running another ham radio course.

The course gives people the opportunity to learn everything they need to become a certified ham radio user. Not only can IT be a fun way to communicate with people, Shaun Koopman, the district’s Protective Services Coordinator, says there’s also a more practical purpose:

He adds ham radios can be incredibly useful during an emergency:

Having more certified amateur radio operators in Campbell River and throughout the regional district would greatly increase the community’s emergency communications capability.

The classes run Tuesdays and Thursdays in April. If you’re interested in signing up you can get in touch with Shaun Koopman at the SRD by calling 250-830-6702 or emailing [email protected]
