CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-A few projects in the North Island riding are getting BC Rural Dividend grants. MLA Claire Trevena announced the grants Tuesday.
They’re the BC Marine Trails Network Association, Cortes Island Seniors Society, and the Village of Gold River. Each is getting $10,000.
The association’s grant is to establish a planning framework for a marine trail system that connects Campbell River, Sayward and Lund. The society will be spending their grant on finishing a preliminary business case for creating a new affordable neighbourhood in Manson’s Landing. Gold River’s money is going to create a strategic plan for boosting tourism.
The provincial government says the rural dividend program encourages, among other things, economic diversification, innovation, and sustainability. Trevena calls the announcement “great news for people on the North Island”.
