CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-Three people are facing charges after they were arrested trying to steal copper wire. It happened Tuesday at the former Catalyst Paper mill near Campbell River.
With thefts at the mill on a recent rise surveillance equipment had been installed, which let the RCMP know something was happening.
Officers searched the site with a police dog and eventually found the three suspects. They had locked themselves in a small room but police and the dog were able to get in. The suspects, two men and a woman, used bear spray as they tried to get away.
Officers found out later that the trio has a number of warrants on the Lower Mainland. Police believe they’re responsible for $30,000 worth of stolen wire and $100,000 in damage to the mill.
