CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-BC Hydro is ramping up the water release down Elk Falls Canyon today, so you’re being asked to stay away.
BC Hydro says the increased flow is so crews can clean pond weed out of the water intake trash racks at the John Hart Dam. It was cleaned out early last month but it’s built up again.
The build-up causes pressure issues which can reduce the dam’s ability to generate power. The water flow down Elk Falls Canyon today is about 20 times the base flow.
