CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-Campbell River won’t be bidding on the 2022 55+ BC Games.
Council made that decision at Monday’s meeting. It decided to hold off on throwing the city’s name into the hat until Campbell River is in a better position to host.
As it stands now Strathcona Gardens is scheduled for a major upgrade, which would mean the city’s only facility large enough to host ceremonies and several of the sporting events wouldn’t be available.
On top of that Campbell River lacks sufficient resources to hold the event on our its and communities in the Comox Valley have said they aren’t interested in teaming up for a bid.
City staff have been directed to look into what kind of community investment would be needed to put Campbell River in a position to host the games in the future.
