School board gets mostly negative feedback on early dismissal days

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-It’s back to the drawing board for School District 72, Campbell River.

At the board’s meeting last week Superintendent Tom Longridge shared the public feedback on the proposed school calendars for next year and the year after.

Most of the feedback expressed concern with the idea of adding five early-dismissal days and only having a week-long spring break.

Longridge pointed out that Easter is late next year, which would make it difficult to schedule a two-week spring break. On top of that he said it would also be difficult to add minutes to the school days to allow for a spring break that long.

Trustees passed a motion to have Longridge develop another calendar option that doesn’t have the early dismissal days. Final calendars have to be in to the Ministry of Education by March 31st.
