Petition for downtown police presence gaining ground

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C- The Campbell River Business Improvement Association (BIA) will meet with a representative of the municipal government on Wednesday, to see what progress the city has made in meeting their demands.

The organization started the petition last month.

It’s aimed at addressing issues of vandalism, public drunkenness and crime in Campbell River’s downtown core.

“Number one that there is a plan in place for immediate action, whatever that looks like,” said the Co-Chair of the BIA, Heather Gordon Murphy.

“Everybody is very, very hopeful. We’ve noticed a little bit more police presence downtown. There’s a lot of people looking at solutions.”

The next BIA meeting is Wednesday April 18th, where Deputy City Manager Ron Neufeld is expected to send a report from the city.

The meeting is closed to the public.

The petition has gained over 400 signatures in less than a month, you can find it at this website.
