Fire department gives out long-service medals, acknowledges new recruits

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-A few Campbell River firefighters are being recognized for their years of service.

Deputy Chief Kelly Bellefleur, Michael Dumont, Bruce Holbrook and Lee Pendergast have all gotten 25 year medals.

In addition to that Andy Eppler got a 20 year medal and David Hutton was acknowledged for receiving Fire Officer Level 1 certification. That’s needed for supervision and direction of crews.

The medals were given out at the fire department’s annual awards ceremony and recruit graduation at the Maritime Heritage Centre last month.

On top of that the new class of recruits and graduates were acknowledged as well. Bellefleur says the Campbell River Fire Department’s in-house training program is recognized as one of the best in the province.
