Bylaw to increase property taxes gets first three readings

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-Campbell River city council has given this year’s property tax increase bylaw its first three readings.

It went through the readings at Monday’s meeting. The tax increase for this year has been set at 2.1 per cent.

That figure was determined during the budget process late last year. It translates to a roughly $51 a year increase for the average household.

The next step will be to adopt the bylaw which, according to the Community Charter, has to be done by May 15th. The due date for this year’s property taxes is July 3rd.
