A woman has died after being rescued from the Puntledge River in the Comox Valley

The Comox Valley RCMP and multiple local emergency crews responded to reports of a woman and child in distress in the Puntledge River at 2:29 pm Friday.
Police were alerted by multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a woman and a small child were seen floating in the Puntledge River by the Condensory Bridge. Waters in the river are fast flowing at this time.

Police were on scene within minutes of the first call. The RCMP helicopter (Air 8), was on scene and assisted in locating the child. The child was immediately transported to St. Joseph’s hospital by BC Ambulance Services. The seven month old is now in BC Children’s Hospital.

The 26 year old woman was located a short time later and transported to hospital.

Investigators have found no evidence to suggest any third party was involved in this pair entering the waters of the Puntledge River.
