Furious credit union members on Sointula, Alert Bay and Cortez Island are not backing down in the fight to keep their Coastal Community Credit Union branches open, after it was announced they would be closed because they are no longer financially viable.
North Island MLA Claire Trevena, says she has been meeting with islanders and speaking with residents about the closures.
Trevena says the closures will undermine the strength of the three communities and is a serious problem for seniors who don’t do internet banking.
She is going to be meeting with the head of the Coastal Community Credit Union next week, but hopes by that time they have already reconsidered the closures.
