CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.–Campbell River is celebrating National Tourism Week.
It runs from this coming Sunday to the following Saturday. Rose Klukas, the City’s economic development officer, says tourism supports the local economy both during the season and in the off-season.
Last year Campbell River had more than 50,000 visitors to take in things like whale watching, snorkeling with salmon, and the views. the conservative estimate is that those visitors bring more than $15 million in economic impact to Campbell River every year.
That figure doesn’t include the number of visitors, 39 per cent of the total, who stay with friends and family while here. According to Destination Campbell River the city’s hotels saw a 75 per cent occupancy rate last year, up 7.4 percentage points.
Next week, Klukas says, people are being encouraged to use the hashtags #BCTourismMatters and #TourismWeek and to share stories about your favourite places in Campbell River, both online and with visitors.
