Chief financial officer leaving City Hall, joining regional district

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C- Myriah Foort is getting a new job.

According to a pair of press releases issued by the City of Campbell River and the Strathcona Regional District, Foort will be resigning from her current role at with the city as the chief financial officer and director of finance in early July.

She’ll be taking on the role of chief financial officer with the district after her resignation.

“While we are sorry to see Ms. Foort leave our organization, we are pleased she will remain in the community,” said Mayor Andy Adams, in a news release.

“We wish her well in her new regional role, and we are confident that her expertise and collaborative style, which served the City so well, will continue to benefit all of the communities that are part of the regional district, including the City of Campbell River.”

Foort was praised for a legacy of “innovation and improvement” for the city, including the development of a 10-year budget outlook with “predictable” tax and user fee increases.

“It’s certainly tough for me to leave our tight-knit City team and the many opportunities to collaborate and enhance service delivery for our community – particularly through building a financial framework that provides stable service delivery today and for the future,” said Foort, in the release.

“Moving to the regional district provides the opportunity to expand my experience in local government, and provides more balance for my young family. I want to say a big thanks to City Council, management, staff, and the finance team for their support and collaboration over the past six years. I look forward to continuing my relationship with City Council and staff at a regional level.”

The city administration in Campbell River has already begun looking for someone to fill Foort’s role, while former general manger Ron Bowles will be acting chief financial officer and director of finance.
