Council awards contracts for infrastructure projects

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C – Campbell River City council recently agreed upon two contracts for sanitation upgrades in the city.

At their June 6th board meeting, council voted to accept a proposal from Windley Contracting Ltd. in the amount of $3,028,885.00 for renewal and upgrade of sanitary sewer mains on Erickson, Harrogate and Larwood roads.

According to a media release from the city, the project was originally anticipated to cost approximately $3.1 million, assuming the sewer could be installed with shallow burying.

But due to underground conflicts, some sections of this project will require excavations up to 5 metres deep, increasing the anticipated cost of the project to approximately $3.9 million.

Also awarded at the meeting was a contract to Cote & Son Excavating Ltd. in the amount of $2,990,979.00

In the city’s statement, the company will be responsible for the installation of a new gravity sewer main along the Island Highway between 1st Avenue and the Maritime Heritage Centre

This contract represents the first of three phases in necessary upgrades to the City’s sanitary sewer system.

According to the city, the project is within budget.

The City will notify the community about project timelines and anticipated effects on traffic.
