New restaurant fundraising for local charity

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C – A local charity was pleasantly surprised this month when they were chosen as partner for the grand opening of a new restaurant in Campbell River.

The Match Eatery and Public House, celebrating their grand opening on June 21, is a new addition to Chances Campbell River. To celebrate, they selected the Beacon Club as the beneficiary of fundraising proceeds.

According to their website, the Beacon Club is a non-profit society that offers activities to adults with mental illnesses, to help them work on their recovery and to assist in their reintegration back into the community.

Chances will be making a donation for every order of wings or their signature cocktail through the months of June and July. They will be matching donations up to $2,000.

“We are surprised and thrilled the team at Chances Campbell River has chosen us as their charity of choice,” said Robyn Ellsworth, administrator for the Campbell River Beacon Club, in a press release.

“The money raised will go towards our Meal Program. Our members assist with preparing the meals for the Tuesday lunch and Friday dinner, and then enjoy it with their peers, staff and volunteers. Through this program they learn valuable life skills like food safe practices, budgeting and nutrition.  Without funding from such a great community supporter like Chances, we wouldn’t be able to help those who have a mental illness live happier, healthier lives.”

Chances recently underwent a $3.5 million renovation that included updates to the gaming floor, and the addition of the new restaurant.
