Community center all charged up

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C- Electric vehicle owners can now full charge their cars in less than 30 minutes at the Campbell River Community Center.

According to a press release from the city, the direct current (DC) electric charger was installed this spring, as part of a $2.5 million dollar provincial initiative.

The charger was put in with funding from BC Hydro, the Province of BC, Natural Resources Canada and the Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program grant.

Campbell River is the most northern Vancouver Island community to receive funding for the service, and one of 31 municipalities in BC.

Level two electric vehicle chargers were already available at City Hall, Dogwood Operations Centre, North Island College, Discovery Harbour Centre, and the Tourism Centre and take four to six hours to fully charge.

The charger is available 24 hours a day and community center staff are available to assist anyone in using it.
