CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C – “Haggard and thin, they stagger in… fat and stout they waddle out.”
That’s the sign above the door of The Royal Coachman Neighbourhood Pub, which will be closing next month after 40 years of operation in Campbell River.
Linda Costa, an employee who has worked at the pub for 28 years, said they had just celebrated the anniversary in May.
“It’s very sad. I can’t imagine that the doors are going to close, and nobody will be out on the patio,” she said.
“We won’t have our regulars anymore, all of those things are just heartbreaking.”
According to Costa, the business is closing because the owner could no longer make a profit, but the liquor store located on the same property, will continue to operate.
The owner could not be reached for comment.
Costa added that she’d love to see the pub get purchased and stay open.
“I definitely want to keep doing this, at least another 10 or 15 years. But maybe someone will buy it, that’s our big hope.”
The pub will be open for its last day on July 9th.
