CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C- Not every person would think to fling themselves out of a plane as a memorial, but Scotty Maclaren did.
Maclaren and eight others are skydiving as a memorial fundraiser for his late wife of 47 years, who passed away last November. The money raised will go to the Campbell River Search and Rescue.
“We wanted to go with a small volunteer organization because some of the bigger ones get all the funding. We went with them, even though my wife died of cancer,” said Maclaren.
“I just love Campbell River, and I think Sheran was a very special lady. She was a store owner and a volunteer, this is just for her memory.”
Discovery Passage Dental, Pacific Airsports and Keep Your Shirt On are all sponsoring the event.
Maclaren, who said he is “79 and five eighths” years old, is jumping out of a plane on July 8th from the Campbell River Airport. He’s organized a salmon bbq picnic and hopes residents will come join.
“A family fun afternoon, in memory of a very special person, and for a great cause in our community,” he said.
